Formerly known as Chinese Foundation for Development of Poverty-stricken Regions when established on March 13, 1989, Chinese Poverty Alleviation Foundation adopted its present name on March 24, 1990 upon approval by the People¡¯s Bank of China, and it is a national non-profitable juridical association under the instruction of the State Council Office of Poverty Alleviation.
The main task of the Foundation is to motivate all the efforts of the stakeholders at home and aboard to support the development of poverty-stricken regions and assist the weak group in the poverty-stricken communities to improve their conditions for production, living and health, lift their quality and abilities to get rid of poverty and get well off by means of project assistance and participation of the assisted.
So far, the projects under implementation or having been completed include: |

small-amount cedit loan poverty alleviation project aiming at improving the self-supporting capacity of the poor farming households and their income level; |

Mother-baby Safety 120 Action aiming at reducing the death rate of the pregnant and lying-in women and new-born babies in poverty-stricken regions; |

Green Great Wall Program that combines environment protection and poverty alleviation; |

Angel Project aiming at relieving the phenomena of ¡°disease-caused poverty¡± and ¡°diseased-caused worse-off¡± in middle and west part of the country; |

¡°Poor Farming Household Self-supporting Project¡± aiming at improving the production and living conditions of the poor farming household; |
 |
comprehensive aided construction and reform project for rural education; |

practical technology training in countryside; |

emergent rescue poverty alleviation project, media-aided poverty alleviation project and etc. |

Ever since its establishment, the Foundation has raised poverty alleviation fund of approximately RMB 800 million from local and foreign sources, implemented more than 200 poverty alleviation projects in total, and directly assisted more than 1 million people to get rid of poverty and get well off on the track of self-supporting and sustainable development. |
